History

Entrepreneurship has long run through the veins of this family business starting with Nic Botes who sought out business and investment opportunities which led to the purchase of the badly fire damaged Upington Hotel (Pty) Ltd with son-in-law Jannie Burger. Jannie redeveloped the hotel into a successful and well known landmark in Upington, after spending the previous years as a hotelier in his own right with the development of the Augrabies Lodge, as well as a successful export grape farmer.

Willie Burger, son and grandson, joined the Company in 1985 and continued with the entrepreneurship and success of his father/grandfather by expanding the Company further into these sectors with the development of two new hotels namely The Oasis Hotel and River City Inn together with the investment into another – Protea Hotel Kimberley by Marriott.
He re-joined the agricultural sector with the purchase and development of Drumsheugh and Norlan Drumsheugh, both cattle/lifestyle farms in the Kalahari. Later he identified opportunities in the commercial property which led to the investment in this sector through the purchase of the Nedbank building and partnership in numerous others.

The Company continues within the family tradition with the addition of Willie Burger and Amelia Steenkamp as the third generation actively now involved in the decision making and day-to-day activities of the Company.
